More than 200 Auburn locals people have this week demonstrated their pride in the community they live by participatin in the inaugural Community Pride Day.

On Sunday more than 30 volunteers to help with the neighbourhood clean-up, including Mayor Irene Simms, Deputy Mayor Jack Au and councillor Le Lam.

Rubbish was collected from surrounding streets in the North Auburn area.

Twelve local families also participated in a second hand sale and many local kids enjoyed making jewellery out of recycled material.

The council also gave away free mini worm farms which to get people interested in recycling their food scraps the natural way. Mayor Irene Simms said the Community Pride event attracted lots of local interest despite the wind and cold.

"It was good to get out there to meet the community and help them feel pride in where they live," she said.

Cr Simms said she was already looking forward to the next event which will take place on the February 7 next year at Remembrance Park, Lidcombe.
