Eels give Hagan five-month deadline to save his job
Parramatta Eels coach Michael Hagan
Eels chief executive Denis Fitzgerald has reportedly told Hagan’s manager he has until March to convince the club his tenure at the club should continue after 2009.
That task will be all the more difficult considering the NRL season only begins on March 13 – meaning Hagan will not have any actual on-field performances to boost his claim.
"They asked some questions which I think they're entitled to ask when you've had a disappointing year,' Hagan told News Ltd.
"And I was pretty honest in my assessment of our year.
"Denis made some comments that by March they'd be in a position to reassess beyond next year, and I think that's fair enough.
"I'm happy to just focus on the immediate stuff you've got to get done and I'm sure that will sort itself out as we go forward.'
The Eels are regarded as one of this season’s major under-achievers, after finishing the year in 11th place on the ladder.
Their pre-season training begins on October 29.
