Fairfield Showground will be transformed into a mini Germany and beer will be flowing freely at the weekend when Oktoberfest comes to town.

The 39th Oktoberfest will open on Saturday October 4 when German-Austrian club president, Walter Schmied taps the first barrel of beer.

Organisers are expecting 30,000 people at the showgrounds across the three day event to 'eat and Drink Well'.

This year's entertainment will include German bands, brass bands merry-go-rounds, folk dancing and exhibitions.

And to line your stomach before the beer-drinking begins, a feast of international food will be available from brat-wurst, gelato, potato pan-cakes, ginger hearts, weisswurst, pork knuck-les and smoked fish.

Tickets are $16 for adults and under 12s are free. For further information visit the German-Austrian Club website http://www.germanaustriansoc.com.au' class=' leftlink' target='_blank'>www.germanaustriansoc.com.au>
