The start of the Bash today will be located at the corner of Darling and Montague Street in Balmain and will present the public with a unique opportunity to farewell the colourful convoy of 103 weird and wonderfully decorated vehicles and their Bashers. There will be some famous faces amongst the 370 Bashers this year, including singing legends John Williamson and John Paul Young.

The Bash will cover 4,202 kilometres while detouring through some of NSW's remote regions including Merriwa and Mungindi and some of Queensland's iconic outback towns such as Archer River, Bamaga and Charters Towers.

The Bashers, who must be in a pre 1974 vehicle, will stop in various remote towns along their journey, spending time seeing the sites and helping out the local community. The Bash is not a race or rally but rather a drive in the Outback where Bashers will enjoy travelling to parts of Australia that they may not otherwise see, at the same time as raising money to support kids in need.

Variety, the children's charity, is dedicated to transforming the lives of children with special needs. In 2012, Variety celebrates 37 years of enriching, improving and transforming the lives of children in need throughout Australia.
