Sydney Council Elections: City Council's car share scheme 80% residents oppose it
Each car share parking space costs Council $880 to set up.
Also, it costs Council lost parking permits and reduced meter parking fines.
Commercial car share operators get the space for free
City Council is aiming to increase car share spots to about 1,000 by 2016.
With the speed car share services are growing comes debate and disapproval from City ratepayers .
The majority car shares are used only on the weekends which shows wasted parking spaces during the week .
Moreover, car share has made it difficult for locals to park and receive carers for the elderly, tradesmen and customers for businesses.
Car share means a huge reduction in resident amenity.

Redmond, that comment is not very charitable. Maybe everyone has not had the opportunity to get an education. Obviously you have, which should make you more tolerant & understanding. Sydney city council also tried to change the roster for parking rangers so that they could book more people monday to fridays the most busy days of the week as a direct result of bycycle paths and car share schemes. There was more parking revenue to be made on these days. This is the reality of this sinister council they are hypocrites that dont really care about what the residents want. Next time you see a council ranger pull them aside and ask them just what the council wants of them.

What, unfortunately in all of these smoke & mirrors situations created by Local Councils any evidence is on anything they do is so hard to obtain. All I know is that the inner city like many other surrounding areas do not have the infrastructure for high density housing and their is no consideration for the existing residents in the areas. I realise that we have to plan for the future but not at the peril of the present communities. "GO WEST YOUNG MAN"
