Basketball Australia is hosting the “Rollers and Gliders World Challenge” at the Homebush Sports Stadium from July 18-21. The Australian Men’s Wheelchair Basketball team (Rollers) will play both Japan and Great Britain twice each during the preliminary rounds, whilst the Australian Women’s Wheelchair Basketball team (Gliders) will play Germany, China and Japan over the opening three days of the tournament. The Australian men are the reigning Paralympic Games Gold Medal winners and will also be hot favourites to win this tournament, whilst Germany will be hot favourites for the women’s division - having recently won the Gold Medal at the Paralympic World Cup. The Gliders have however been in impressive form overseas, defeating reigning Paralympic and World Champions the USA and before taking the Silver Medal behind Germany at the Paralympic World Cup. The Rollers squad is: Tristan Knowles (NSW), Nick Taylor (NSW), Grant Mizens (NSW), Brett Stibners (NSW), Brad Ness (WA), Shaun Norris (WA), Michael Hartnett (WA), Justin Eveson (WA), Bill Latham (QLD), Tige Simmons (QLD), Dylan Alcott (VIC), Jannik Blair (VIC). The Gliders squad is Sarah Steward (NSW), Tina McKenzie (NSW), Kylie Gauci (NSW), Katie Hill (NSW), Amber Merritt (WA), Clare Nott (nee Burzynski - WA), Sarah Vinci (WA), Bridie Kean (QLD), Cobi Crispin (VIC), Leanne del Toso (VIC), Shelley Chaplin (VIC), Amanda Carter (VIC) World Challenge Fixture Wednesday July 18 10:00am – Australian Gliders v Japan 12:00pm – Great Britain v Japan (Men) 5:30pm – Germany v China (Women) 7:30pm – Australian Rollers v Great Britain Thursday July 19 10:00am – Australian Rollers v Japan 12:00pm – China v Japan (Women) 5:30pm – Australian Gliders v Germany 7:30pm – Australian Rollers v Great Britain Friday July 20 10:00am – Australian Gliders v China 12:00pm – Great Britain v Japan (Men) 5:30pm – Japan v Germany (Women) 7:30pm – Australian Rollers v Japan Saturday July 21 12:30pm – 3rd v 4th (Women) 2:30pm – Women’s Final 4:30pm – Men’s Final Tickets will be available at the door.
