It’s Sydney’s most controversial bike path, with 63 risk hazards to cyclists, vehicles and pedestrians; a latest safety review reveals.

Falls on to a road or driveway can lead to the risk of cyclists being hit by a moving vehicle

Parsons Brinkerhoff risk management experts recently wrote the review on the separated bike path

The review revealed; there are serious risks with the Bourke Rd separated bike path in Alexandria, including hazards at:

Driveways, traffic going in going out

Raised kerb separators, bike accidents

Low lying tree branches can hit bikers

Intersections, trucks & buses going in & out

Surrounds around trees uneven height

Brick walls along the cycleway route

Bus shelter advertising blocks vision

Hidden pedestrian footpaths

Narrow pedestrian paths a danger

Uneven bikeway surface

Bus shelters block vision

Sandbags left in cycleway gutters

Electricity power poles to close to bike path

Separator concrete medians

Dangerous poles near bikers

This cycleway has the potential to cause serious accidents to pedestrians, cyclists and traffic
