It can take longer on the new separated cycleways than by using the road to get around many bikers report

Separated cycleway problems include:

It's hard to overtake slower riders, because the lanes are just two bikes wide, travelling both ways. And slow riders do use them the these bike paths

Walkers seem to think they're a footway, or a place to wheel shopping trolleys - this is common on the Bourke Street path.

Taxi drivers and tradespeople seem to think they're an opportune drop-off spot, especially when it's wet or have to drop off elderly passengers.

Choosing a course that takes the cycleways can often add distance, and time, which can be avoided by taking the roads instead.

Many intersections along the bike paths are dangers for traffic walkers & bikers; unsafe!
