Willoughby City Library Service will celebrate Library and Information Week, 20 to 26 May 2012, with a range of activities and events for all ages. A national campaign that promotes library and information services around Australia, Library and Information Week is a great opportunity to learn about the new and existing resources available at your local library.

This year’s theme, Think Outside The Book, encourages the community to look at different ways to enjoy libraries and reading. At Willoughby City Library, Shorelink’s OverDrive catalogue enables library patrons to download a wide range of eBooks and Audio Books onto a compatible mobile device, such as a laptop or mobile phone. As part of Library and Information Week 2012, Chatswood Library will host National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) at 11am, Wednesday 23 May. The chosen book this year is The Very Cranky Bear by Nick Bland, a tale about friendship, sacrifice, and learning that appearances aren't important.

Now in its 12th year, National Simultaneous Storytime promotes reading and literacy to children using a picture book that explores age appropriate themes and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Grades 1 to 6. In 2011, more than 170,000 children across Australia took part in National Simultaneous Storytime.
