Update on road closures due to flooding in Northern NSW

Following requests from Streetcorner's readers, here is the latest update from the NSW Transport Management Centre, it is current as at 11am 2nd of Feburary 2012.

'Heavy rain and flooding continues to cause road closures and delays for motorists in New South Wales.

As at 11am:

• Newell Highway is closed - 15km south of Moree at Gurley (between Moree and Narrabri)

• Newell Highway is currently open between Moree and the Queensland Border. However, the Newell Highway will close at this location at 1130 this morning.

• Carnarvon Highway is closed in both directions between Moree and Mungindi.

• Gwydir Highway is closed in both directions 30km east of Moree at Warialda. The Bruxner Highway can be used as an alternative.

• Gwydir Highway is closed between Moree and Collarenebri.

• Oxley Highway is closed between Gunnedah and Tamworth due to flooding at Carrol. Motorists can divert via Willow Tree using both the Kamilaroi and New England Highway.

The New England Highway remains open to the Queensland Border.

The Pacific Highway remains open to the Queensland Border.

Additionally,

There is water over the road on the Pacific Highway at various locations on the on the Mid North Coast. The highway remains open. Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution.

Other roads that are closed or affected by flooding: • Waterfall Way remains open. However there is water over the roadway around Bellingen.

• Failford Road between Pacific Highway and Tuncurry Road - closed in both directions.

• Thunderbolts Way between Uralla and Bundarra - closed in both directions.

Due to heavy rainfall and localised flooding there are also reports of road surface damage (pot holes) at various locations around the state where heavy rain has been experienced. RMS crews continue to work to repair damaged road surfaces.

Motorists are advised to avoid all non essential travel in flood affected areas of NSW. When driving exercise extreme caution.

Your information is a month out of date. The newell highway fully open, the gwydir highway fully open in all dircections, Oxley highway at gunnedah/tamworth open all the way.Kamilori Highway open all the way, may have water over the road west of Walgett, and closer to Bourke. Kidman Way is Closed from bourke to the north, due to flooding, peaked today. Suggest you update your report more regularly, as the wrong and outof date info, is misleading to readers and can be of inconvenience and long extra trips.
