Victorian Teams Dominate 2012 East Coast Challenge

Twenty-four junior representative basketball teams from three States and Territories gathered at the Hills Basketball Stadium last week, to contest the 2012 East Coast Challenge (ECC). Victorian teams dominated all week, with six of their eight teams reaching the four grand finals. South Australia's Under 16 Women reached their grand final, whilst the NSW Metro #1 Under 18 Men's team also reached their grand final. The NSW Under 18 Men were therefore the only hope for local NSW pride and although they had been defeated by Victoria Metro #1 team 52-40 earlier in the day, showed great character to out-run and out-play the Victorians in the grand final to score a commanding 50-40 win. Manly Warringah's Nicholas Duncan was outstanding for NSW in the grand final, grabbing a game-high 25 points, whilst team-mate Fabijan Krslovic (Northern Suburbs) also had a great game to finish with 10 points. The results of the grand finals were as follows: Under 16 Men: Victoria Metro #1 59 defeated Victoria Metro #2 59-37 Under 16 Women: Victoria Metro #2 52 defeated South Australia 39 Under 18 Men: NSW Metro #1 50 defeated Victoria Metro 40 Under 18 Women: Victoria Metro #1 41 defeated Victoria Metro #2 38
