Waverley Council refuses Tea Gardens extension of hours
Councillor John Wakefield
The statement below is from Waverley Labor.
"In a complete turnaround from their recent voting the Waverley's Mayor Betts and her colleagues voted with Labor and the Green Councillors on Waverley Council to refuse to extend the hours of opening of the Tea Gardens Hotel. The pub wants to continue to trade until 3am 7 days per week but Waverley Council voted unanimously to refuse the application.
This is the first time Mayor Betts has voted against an extension of trading hours of a hotel. The current mayor and her colleagues have also been more than happy to approve a number of local bars particularly in Bondi Beach against the express opposition of local residents.
A police representative at a recent forum on anti social behaviour referred to these bars as "launching pads" for problems in Bondi area.
After the refusal the owners of the Tea Gardens will now go to the Land & Environment Court to seek approval."
