Moorebank Intermodals freight Hub needs proper impact study by New State Government
With the state election last saturday which resulted in a big swing in the South West to the New Government it was obvious the residents were unhappy of how they were treated. Most residents in the Liverpool council area are aware of the impending disaster that would occur if the freight Hub container terminals proceed and all the evidence we are receiving from the USA and other sources outline massive health problems that would put many thousand residents health in a very precarious way.All evidence points out that the area become of its unique geographical natures as it is in a basin where the pollution stagnates. All our overtures to the present consultants in charge of present studies have been met with a stony silence and many gridlocked roads would be unable to cope with the extra thousands of trucks that would travel the M5 and other arterial roads and any expansion of the M5 would have trouble keeping up with present expansion of the south west.
I think a proper study of the impact on the area would validate our claims and it would be impossible to sustain such developements in a area with a bad health record.
All residents are asking for is a bit of commonsence John Anderson Wattle Grove 0409368603

Research has revealed that the Liverpool area is one of the worst health areas in Australia and to think that it would be severely compromised by these container terminals freight Hub and associated industries is beyond comprehension. With the south west sydney to be effected by the intermodals container terminals freight hub a rapid expanding area deserve better consideration. There is presently over a million residents in the south west and with expansion it will increase by half a million. The residents are angry our claims are been ignored and the planning is continuing unabbetted. Please start taking our claims more serious as we are very concerned about the effects on the health and lifestyle of our families. We have been told that extensive studies have been made but we have evidence quite to the contrary. The consultation process of local residents is a farce. The impact zone of the TWIN Intermodals, that of SIMTA and addition the Finance Australia proposal(MPO) is as far reaching as 10 Km from Moorebank. Neither SIMTA nor the MPO have seen fit to consult ALL those affected within that radius. The DGR has been hoodwinked by their "consultation processes" The consultation process will be found wanting as it was for the Bankstown airport passenger flights. SIMTA and the MPO will be sent back to the drawing board to start the consultation process all over again. .... Can the DGR be so dumb as to fall for that sort of nonsense? These proposals are the size of Port Botany and as yet the consultation processes are as though they're going to build a couple of sheds on the sites!

If the Project managers were serious on proper studies they would have scrapped the project from day one, the current Air quality and pollution levels in the Liverpool area already poor.

In california research there has shown that up to 21,000 people die there annually as the Diesel emmisions which contain up to 40 toxic chemicals is virtually like asbestos as the minute particles can get into your lungs and have the same effect. With up to 3 million diesel trucks to ascend on the area along with the 183 locomotives up to 36 years to 50 years old also pose a massive threat to the health of residents..Previous studies in 1991 & 1995 and south west health figures prove the area has serious health problems how can they be compounded by the addition of thousands of extra diesel container trucks..You cant impose a area like port botany into Liverpool without having massive problems for all the south west a population of over a million residents.Lets get a proper scrutiny on this disaster for the area John Anderson wattle grove.0409368603

No doubt some of the swing to the Liberals locally in the Liverpool area was because of the proposed Moorebank Intermodals and the Labor Party's arrogance towards local residents on the issue. Now with the Liberals are in power we will be watching to see what Barry O'Farrell and his Government are going to do. Hopefully they will sit up and take notice of the election result and not simply carry on with Labor's legacy of little consultation with locals over the Proposed Moorebank Intermodals.

I totally support Johns concerns,An extra three million trucks will pass through Sutherland, Bankstown, Campbelltown and Liverpool every year converging on the Moorebank site. Anyone living within 10 kilometres as the crow flies from the Moorebank site will be in the heightened killing area. If the traffic does not raise your blood pressure and cause a stroke or heart attack the Diesel poison and chemical smog will give you asthma, lung complaints, heart attacks, strokes, blood pressure, diabeties and sexual disfunctio to only name a few. Housing values will plummet, You will need to keep your children locked up inside to avoid the contamination and its effects. This poison from Diesel can cnter your bodty through your skin of by your airways spelling misery in your health future and even death. No government who cares for its people should allow this to hhappen when 500,000people live within a 10k radious of the Moorebabk site. As Nasi said, these proposals should have been scrapped day one purely due to the health risk. Maybe that's the reason for the non existant consulation process. All the consultants want do is stand in there shopfront and wait for the punters to dribble in so they can claim that they have been consulted. As I have previously said, these people need to physically get out into the suburb's with the management of Simta and hear it from they people who are facing this disaster.I keep asking our politicians if they would accept these proposed sites next door to them and expose their family to the health risk. Ironically they have not answered my question as they know what the answer is, and thats "NO WAY" Come on Stockland, build the technology park that was proposed back in 2003 That way we will at least survive the holocaust.

John is absolutely correct. The medical evidence from the USA and more recently from here in Australia is conclusive and overwhelming. The evidence is out there, so the Federal government knows the consequences. If they allow this proposal to go ahead, they will once again have blood on their hands. Their complete disregard for their Duty of Care to people residing within a 10 killometre radius of the terminals will result in compensation claims, for many decades.our local federal Member, Craig Kelly, voiced his opposition to the project prior to the federal election and since winning his seat, has continued to demonstrate his opposition to it. Our new local State Member Melanie Gibbons, voiced her opposition to the project prior to the State election. Now she needs to prove to us if that was an election stunt or not. Likewise Barry O'Farrell stated prior to the election that he wants to abolish 'Section 3a', which is the section the Government are using to force this death sentence upon us, Mr O'Farrell has been swept into power largely by the people of western Sydney. This is his opportunity to repay these people, by putting a stop to this grossly incompetent proposal and moving it where it belongs, further out west, away from residential communities. Where it will not kill people! Brian Bruce 0418251705

Stop the Dangerous Moorebank Freight Intermodals. Current proposal has 10 Schools, 19 ChildCare Centers and over 39K Voters/Kids within 2km.

Today the 5th April 2011 traffic on the M5 is back to Liverpool. If the intermodals were operating the health of the Locals would be worsened by the diesel trucks which would be idling their motors spreading their toxic fumes while they attempt to get on to the M5.I bet none of the consultants investigating the intermodals container terminals have ever witnessed this gridlock on our roads. They are locked away in their offices totally unaware of the daily ocurrence.I asked the Moorebank project team to go with me to witness this madness but they refused to do it .They only listened to my submissions and refused to offer any comments.Lets get some sanity in this whole debate John Anderson wattle grove.0409368603

The Liberal party has now been elected. Barry O'Farrell - it is now up to you to put a stop to this lunacy. Melanie Gibbons - it is now time to show what you're made of. Don't let the people down who have so recently voted you in. DO NOT SENTENCE THE PEOPLE OF LIVERPOOL TO DEATH! Show that you put the people before big business and profit. Moorebank is NOT the cheap option.

SIMTA have decided to decrease the total opening times of their office in Liverpool - how good of them! They are now going to close their office during the week days with the guise that they'll open it for 3 hours longer on Saturday. This means they're decreasing their total office hours from 9 per week to 6 hours ONLY per week. Together with the fact that they're practically invisible in the first place - no signage and a big For Lease sign out the front - making the office look like it's empty.

I recently wrote to SIMTA/Elton Consulting to address their poor handling of the community consultation so far on this project. I requested that they need to be more involved with the community eg. public forums, door knocking in the local community - This is the response I got from them: "We believe that the SIMTA consultation process gives every person an opportunity to express their views. SIMTA’s consultation process is designed to ensure everyone feels able to contribute their feedback in a forum where they feel comfortable. This way, all concerns can be closely listened to and responded to personally and with the appropriate detail." I think what they are trying to say that they have no intention from stepping one foot outside their unmarked office to do some pro-active community consultation and are happy to continue arranging closed door meetings with individual members of the community. Lets remember that these are the same guys who were tried to cover up community oppostion when the Labor Government tried to dump radioactive waste in Kemps Creek from Hunters Hill. I can bet they are using the same failed methods with us.

Yes SIMTA give everyone an opportunity - as long as they can get to their unmarked and hidden office in the few hours (6) that they open per week! Everyone an opportunity - BULLDUST! Yes it doesn't surprise me that they've dealt with trying to sneek things past the community since they're so good at it!

community consultation should be a 2 way street where all members of the community should be given the opportunity to voice their concerns. It would have been proper to have a joint committee so issues could be debated in a way where local concerns could have been properly aired and not ignored as is happening now.The health and safety of residents is a non negotiable issue and we should insist the whole process be done on a prop[er basis.Im sure many people involved in the consultative process dont live in the area and have no idea of what we have been talking about. The massive diesel emmisions will kill our residents and to have no duty of care in the matter is disgraceful John Anderson wattle grove.0409368603

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention when I specifically proposed to Elton Consulting that a public forum be arranged so ALL residents can have an opportunity to have a say, the statement I received opposing a forum was "while some members of the community feel confident speaking at a public meeting, others do not". Is this honestly their reason not have public meetings on this project? Because they ASSUME some people do not want to get up and have a say? I wonder what other assumptions they are making about the local community on this project? I guess assumptions is all they have because they sure as hell don't consult with the community!

While a public forum would be helpful what would be more beneficial is a joint committtee made of of equal number from residents and intermodal representatives. When I worked for the Port Authority I was involved in a exercise to reclassify our staff this should happen here not in the haphazard way it is operating now as they are hiding the real facts and not taking our concerns seriously. We have too much at stake we will not stand idle and see our residents health deteriorate John Anderson wattle grove.0409368603

Unfortunately the Georges River will face another source of Pollution if the Moorebank Intermodals go ahead. Expected to be the Biggest in Australia, to be built on the banks of the Georges River it will operated 24 hours / 7 days per week with Diesel and other Toxins leaking into the River. It will be a Sad day for Sydney as it flows through ALL of Sydney
