How Big Can the Moorebank Intermodals be

The Current Concept Circulating is for Steel Sheeted Structures with Awning Roofs supposed to Contain Sound Light and Pollution from Emissions. Deisel Trains Day and Night Shunting Operations and the Movements of Heavy vehicles 24hrs in an area where you can still hear Bell Birds. Well the fact is the idea is so light on structure it might as well be made of Cornflake Packets.

Obviously a Big Idea needs a BIG structure to contain it made out of Concrete Slab Upstands and with a fully enclosed Roof Structure about the Size of Wembley Stadium It will need to have a complete Air Pollution Capture and Scrubbing System so as not to poison half of Liverpool with the M5 Six Lanes and The Hume Highway running right next door inland with no clearing sea breezes. The Cranes will need to be mounted inside on Mono Structures to avoid vibration turning the Roofs into giant Drums. The Rail Tracks and all of the Container Stacks will have to be inside to control the Emissions along with the Queing and Loading Areas for Trucks so the Mighty Emission Sources are captured and People can still Live in LIVERPOOL. It will need underground Conveyors and all of the state of the art stuff suitable for placement in developed urban areas with residential established next to an existing INDUSTRIAL MONSTER. How Much Will it all Cost???

This thing is to go within 2000m of Liverpool City and suburbs can be as close as a few hundred metres away.

Of Course They are Ex Defence Sites these " Proposed Freight Zones" once they become NSW Resources owned by the Private Sector therefore they are subject to OH&S NSW Style not Defence Style so the Decontamination could take a Decade for all they know ( until they find it then how much will there be and where will it go to next?!) The Cost of Clean up is certainly going to make a dent in the Taxpayer Purse if the Commonwealth does the right thing here but thats what you get when you try to redevelop on Suspect Lands like Military Training Areas that have been used for about 100yrs. Really it Would be Cheaper to Forest it and build a Green Fields Intermodal Freight Hub Somewhere else " But it Looked Good ON PAPER"

Which brings us to the so called "Buffer Zone" a few hundred metres across of Ex Munitions Site which has been under Decontamination since 2008. Mentioned in the SMH back then and then the Labor Government tried to sell it for Warehousing and Transport, no one would touch it-no wonder. The Liberals said it was "Earmarked for Housing" before the 2007 Election. See Anzac Rd Moorebank on Google Map Sattellite and take a look at the THIRD WORLD CONDITIONS IN LIVERPOOL see the Piles and Mounds near homes and how the Govenment is really treating us here.

The Road Connections for the Moorebank Intermodal Inland Port Freight Zone include Moorebank Ave Ramps which have no hope of Carrying Anything towards the M7 unless the Trucks are Supercharged to accellerate in a few hundred metres to 100klms Per Hour and Cross Two Lanes within 800m before the M5 off Ramps to Hume HWY Rip them off the Road. Road Engineering is Going to cost a Literal Fortune because the Sites are hard against a River and there is insufficient road infrastructure so Taxpayers Get Ready Again! MORE TUNNELS Massive Flyover Networks? More Bridges? who Pays??? We Do? The Railway, well that has to get past the Glenfield Waste Repository with Methane Gas Leaks apparently. An ELEVATED Track so Trains just have to climb turning sideways under full power onto a lovely quiet Airborn Railway next to New Housing Estates in Casula.. Forget Sound Barriers this is going to be Supersonic!! Of Course Then It's through the Liverpool CBD Past and Next to the Brand New Teaching Hospital along next to the High Rise Units of Warwick Farm and then The Racecourse ( Hope those horses sleep well before Race Day) Want to bet on it!!! This is what the NSW Labor and Federal Government have in mind, DONT LET IT HAPPEN! Then, There's the TRAFFIC!

This is scary stuff. Don't forget the use of the East Hills line sometime down the future for freight despite claims that it won't be used. We are being mislead all along about this project from both the Federal Government and Simta. I believe that the 1.5 million containers that we are being told about are only the tip of the iceberg and that this project will be much much bigger than we are being told by both parties. Just look at the size of the combined proposed sites compared to Port Botany. Doesn't that tell you something about the future planning. Don't let glossy brochures with pictures of some lovely futuristic space port mislead you into thinking that all will be rosy. Don't be conned into thinking that all this freight will be brought in by rail. The Government's own freight projections suggest that their target is only 40% to be transported by rail if they actually ever reach that target. The rest will be by trucks.

Yes Roy, “it looks good on Paper”, because the decision makers should think 1 hour instead of 2 minutes for a huge project like this, but hey !! why should they think??? Its taxpayer money not their money, on Paper its $300 million and in real action it will be more than 1 billion. We wouldn’t know about it until it’s been done and dusted, and I feel sorry for all the residents on the SSFL train line (Liverpool via Regions park line) as they are not aware of the Impact of this Project and it’s mass Freight Rail Movements utilising SSFL.

Dominico posts

What a waste of Public Money! When we Politicians start to think of the COMMUNITY Interest rather than their OWN Political Interest??

Roy Carter posts

Districts along the SSFL will really get a Shock! Regents Park, Sefton, Cabramatta, Villawood, Warwick Farm are all closer to the Intended Destination Intermodals but really all of the Line out from Port Botany will carry far more Rail Traffic than ever experienced. Commuters on the roads from Campbelltown will be even worse to advantage making " Tradies " and Sevice Businesses more difficult to operate from further out than Moorebank Junction. Prices will have to rise to accomodate extra operating costs making the region Uncompetative! There is a price to pay when an Extra Million Trucks take your Roads away! Commuters from Camden will find the upgraded roads more occupied by the Freight Industry than them as all Distribution is concentrated and Embedded in the Southwest Commuter Corridore. Industrial Areas around Campbelltown and Narrellan will find delivery times blowing out and difficulty in obtaining commuter employees from districts towards Sydney will no doubt be the norm. Restricted Personnel Skills due to lack of Available People Willing to Cop the Traffic will reduce effficiency of Southwest Industrial Zones. This is the BIG Picture Emerging of this Scheme.

When will all this STUPIDITY end?????? Why is it that everyday tax payers can see the HUGE PROBLEMS and COSTS associated with this RIDICULOUS INTERMODAL, but the "experts" are prepared to WASTE BILLIONS and ACHIEVE NOTHING but a HUGE MESS that will probaly COST EVEN MORE TO CLEAN UP??? If that is possible!!!! The state of NSW has been a LAUGHING STOCK when it comes to INFRASTRUCTURE & PLANNING for years...when will someone WAKE UP & GET IT RIGHT FOR ONCE????

It was told to me that the container terminals were talked about in 1994 16 years ago.It shows the deception that has been made against the people of Liverpool. It confirms my belief that the area has been manipulated by many people over a long period of time.I work at Milperra Rd Bankstown airport and view constantly the bumper to bumper traffic each day.It is hard to envisage thousands of trucks added to this gridlock on a daily basis. The obvious answer is to move these containers to a regional area where it could be possible not to badly inconvenience local residents John Anderson Wattle grove 0409368603

When are the residents of the areas to be effected by the container terminals are to be given consideration. Also the residents of Liverpool and Casula have been crying out for ages to get some relief about the freight trains. If the container terminals go ahead the residents health will take a backward dive.Does anybody care or do they think the residents dont rate in their quality of life stardominator

Discussions with a truck driver discovered they want to make Parkes the main intermodal depot as it is in the middle of Australia. He was amazed to know that they want to make Moorebank the freight capital of Sydney. He even offered the advice that St Marys should be the main intermodal as it has good rail connections and would make a better place for the distribution of Containers. He offered the advice we are fighting that a residential area like Liverpool should be preserved for housing as it would impact badly on residences. It is about time for the parties behind the intermodal to make a more commonsense look at the disaster that would occur if the intermodal is rushed against residents wishes John Anderson wattle grove.0409368603

If you really want to get an update on current thinking on transport research and can submit a paper to be dicussed, go to ATRF 2010 registration and attend the seminar in Canberra 29/09/2010-1/10/2010. $880 + accommodation. Liverpool council should be represented and submit its concerns for the intermodal.

Unless we can get this proposal off the "Critical Infrastructure" list, this proposal will become a reality. Section 3A and all its subclauses in the environmental development legislation overrides ALL objections and environmental study results to any proposal covered by the "critical Infrastrucure" title. It is the planning Minister's opinion that dictates the status, no redress. This Section 3A is a diabolical piece of legislation in the wrong hands. When implemented this legislation allows the authorities to strip away any rights, ownership or redress. It is a very well thought out piece of legislation, to use the letter of the law and ignore as usual the spirit of the law. Does any one know if the SIMTA site is a "critical Infrastructure"? If not, then at least the SIMTA site can be halted for environmental reasons and onerous conditions placed on it by Liverpool Council.

The Moorebank intermodal is step two according to "MAJOR PROJECT ASSESSMENT: Intermodal Logistics Centre, Enfield" page 11. Eastern Creek has been put at No 3 on the wish list (2016 onwards). Now that Enfield is up and running, time will tell if it is a financial disaster and needs government FIC intervention for it to be fully utilized. Let's hope that the commercial operators ostracise it because of its extra cost, double handling and forever too late deliveries to and from the Port.

The Australian Government has allowed the Wattle Grove Development to take place housing Civillian and Defence Families next door to this Frieght Hub Moorebank Intermodal " Proposed Complex". The Land is Contaminated in a number of ways and the prospect of clearing over 500 acres of Ex Military Muck without poisoning half of Liverpool is quite a worry. Frankly I am awestruck this can be happening in 21st century Australia.

The section 3a only applies to state developements not federal legislation.Im sure no state government will enforce the 3a as it will be too controversial.I spoke to craig kelly today and saod it wouldnt matter if the m5 was expaned as the trucks will be all coming down milperra rd as they wont want to avoid paying the Tolls John Anderson wattle grove 0409368603

Whatever size it is will damage our Community Severly. Honestly, the stupidity of our Politicians of both persuasions is Amazing! If you research the issue properly you see that this is a Total Waste of Taxpayers Money, adds Polution to the Asthma Capital of Sydney, adds to the Carbon FootPrint because Moorebank is Too Close to Port Botany, Dredges up Contaminated Military Waste on the land, and should be more Centrally Located in the West of Sydney NOT the South West.

Roy, the trucks will come whichever way is the quickest as time is money. They'll even detour through Menai to come to Moorebank if it proves quicker. Tolls won't deter them as they are taken care of as running costs to the business, fully refundable through the tax system, another case of the tax payer subsidising business. Finance Australia together with the NSW planning department will deliver the Moorebank intermodal. The NSW planning department has no qualms about using Section 3A as it did at Enfield, leppington rail extension and numerous other projects already, with many more to be steamrolled I'm sure. Yes Dominico, on the warehouse locality maps Moorebank IS in the wrong place, the outer fringes to be exact. It is a quick cheap fix for a predicament of their own making. The Port Botany expansion is the precursor to the Enfield, Moorebank and soon to be talked about again Eastern Creek Intermodals. These are the three "Amigos" Finance Australia and the State Planning department have had in their sights al along. This stategy had its beginnings in the Howard years with Craig Knowles' "OPINION" being the deciding factor to put these on the "Critical Infrastructure" project list. It was only an "OPINION" that put it there let's get an "OPINION" from the next minister that holds the portfoli to take it OFF the list.

Roy Carter posts

The Government have already committed $70m to get the Moorebank option going and say they have $230m more ready to put up for connections, Plus the Southern Sydney Freight Rail is to run across the river as it services the Minto Intermodal and further Southwest. It will be difficult to get the position changed even though it is Blatantly in the wrong spot. In fact by placing the THE CONTAINER FREIGHT HEART where the DISTRIBUTION HEART is needed ( Moorebank is too critical for Warehousing and DISTRIBUTION and as a CONDUIT for Freight as the Hume/ M5/ M7 Newbridge Rd, Cumberland Highway, Elizabeth Drive and Camden Valley Way all converge Thereabouts). The Equivalent of a Melt Down is created. We bung up the roads with full and return empty containers forcing our Palletised and Taughtliner loads which constitute the most effective deliveries to compete with Steel Boxes for Road Space. Besides the Community of Liverpool has not been asked if it is ok to wreck their lives for a Commercial Project to proceed Regardless of Prospects of Successs Logical or not. The Positioning of such a project will cause LOSS for the Reidents and as the Federal Government is apparently responsible the Residents and Ratepayers of Liverpool may have to SUE the Australian Government by a Class Action. Wattle Grove Value Circa $500m Casula Value Unknown but Substantial. What will be the net loss not only FINANCIALLY but from an Amenity perspective? Liverpool could also sue for loss of Amenity and Health Implications. LIVERPOOL COUNCIL may have to fund the case and or Specific Compensation Lawyers may wish to contact residents soon anyway. The Attempted Disenfranchisement of Wattle Grove sold to the Public via a Government Authority, Promoted by Government as a solution for Defence Housing Difficulties may prove to be a very expensive mistake when the Government has Apparently by Mistake built up HOUSING IN THE WRONG PLACE! Amazing how poor the coordination has been between Defence and Transport and Infrastructure. Hopeless Government Beurocratic Decisions leading to needless Strife now the Government Appears HONOUR BOUND to settle the Ramifications of the FREIGHT FIASCO at MOOREBANK NSW by adding COMPENSATION for RESIDENTS that should not have been Sold the Governments Own Land Nearby to it's so called Business Plan..
