Mobile speed cameras targeting you from today
STOP sign on road
Six cars fitted with the mobile speed cameras will be focusing on high crash risk areas, many of which are in Western Sydney.
With over a hundred of million in revenue budgeted from the mobile speed camera’s the public is skeptical that the government is motivated by safety concerns in implementing the new cameras. Many believe better safety outcomes eventuate from public warnings about fixed cameras rather than hidden cameras which trap drivers.
David Borger rejects these criticisms.
“Speeding kills - that is the cold, harsh reality we all need to come to terms with. People think ‘It cant happen to me’ - but the horror is, it can,” he said.
The Minister for Roads said 213 people died in speed related crashes last year ‘and their families and friends suffered unspeakable tragedy when they lost a loved one.’ “If these cameras can make motorists think twice about speeding, then they have done their job,” said David Borger
David Borger pointed to the experience in other states, saying ‘when mobile speed cameras were introduced in Queensland and Victoria, they delivered a 25 per cent drop in casualty crashes. It has worked in Victoria, it has worked in Queensland. Now it is time for New South Wales.’
Locations of mobile speed cameras are determined based on criteria such as the number and severity of crashes, and are developed by the RTA’s NSW Centre for Road Safety in partnership with the NSW Police and NRMA Motoring and Services. Information on the locations of mobile speed cameras is now available at www.rta.nsw.gov.au/
What do you think of the State Government’s Mobile Speed camera’s? Is the NSW Government serious about reducing speed related accidents or is this just another tax on NSW road users? Are there any hot spots in your area you believe should be targeted?

trapster.com why waste money on catching just the speeding drivers? what about fatigue and bald tires and going over lanes on blind corners only POLICE can get this.

Curious, no mention of Picton / Winton / Mt Keira Rds on the location list. It would appear that the RTA recognises that under resourced rds are a bigger killer than speed.
Drivers Have Money posts
This government is acting like the KGB and run by SS Gestapo when it comes to drivers on congested and poorly maintained roads with a gauntlet of different speed signs. But for the 2500 farmers who commit suicide each year which is five times the road deaths the government does nothing.

its far too easy to stray a km or 2 above the posted limits whilst not technicaly driving in a dangerous manner. i would be far happier if the 'highway patrol' were more obvious as a deterrent to bad driving habits; dangerous overtaking maneouvers, mobile phone use, lane hogging, double and dangerous parking etc. get the police to educate not chastise road users, we will all benefit not just resent their highway robbery..

Disgusting and corrupt behavior that is this NSW Government. Why don't we see these Cameras on Boundary Road and other dangerous roads in the Sydney's North West the Government fails to fix these roads cars are traveling at dangerous speeds tailgating slower cars then overtaking them. The death and accident tolls on these roads is unacceptable. No we wont see these camera's on these roads they wouldn't make enough money. Better to get lots of drivers in a flow of traffic on safe dual carriageway like Windsor Road which is not a Black Spot. Bring on the State Election now before they hurt us anymore.

It’s OK to label the Government as money hungry parasites by using ridiculous fixed speed limits. Everyone realises that a fixed speed limit is not ideal at all times. With today’s technology it should be easy to develop speed advisory signs based on traffic conditions, an example is the 40kph limit in School zones, although that has problems in itself. However, what is the opposition’s point of view? I bet that they won’t remove the cameras once in power; it is too good a money spinner to pass up!
