Police from the Ashfield Local Area Command are appealing for public assistance following a fatal pedestrian collision in Hurlstone Park last night. About 8pm a man, believed to be aged in his 80’s, was crossing Canterbury Road, near the intersection of Church Street when he was hit by a vehicle heading west. The elderly man suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. According to witness accounts, the driver of the vehicle stopped briefly before driving away. He has been described to police as being of white/European in appearance with short brown hair and wearing jeans with a long sleeve brown T-shirt. He’s believed to be aged in his early 30’s. The vehicle he was driving is believed to be a small hatchback, similar to a Daihatsu Charade, tan or cream in colour with damage to the front headlights and windscreen. Police would also like to speak with the driver of a silver Toyota Echo who may have witnessed the collision.
