Why be stuck in traffic jams and pay ever increasing road tolls when you can bicycle ride to work?

National Ride to Work Day is an annual event across Australia which aims at encouraging commuters to ride their bikes full or part way to and from work.

This morning starting at 7.00am a steady stream of riders turned up to Prince Alfred Park Parramatta for a free coffee & muffin and a chatted to fellow bike commuters before heading off to work. I lost count but at least 60 riders turned up, and everyone was happy and relaxed, no road rage here.

Department of Environment & Climate Change and Water had by far the biggest turnout of 30 riders and are challenging other business to get serious about not just the environments health but your own health.

Lord Mayor of Parramatta Cr Paul Garrard was on hand nice and early to thank everyone for participating as a regular or first timer to pedal to work. Mayor Garrard said “Parramatta Council will continue to increase cycle ways and to encourage people to ride in the Parramatta area.”

“Parramatta City Council is once again proud to be supporting National Ride to Work Day, and I would like to encourage the Parramatta business community to actively get involved in this event,” said Lord Mayor of Parramatta Cr Paul Garrard.

“Riding to work is not only a healthier option, it is a great way to save on costs, escaping traffic snarls and at the same time doing good for the environment by reducing your carbon footprint,” he said.
