Police from Strike Force Plante, within the South West Metropolitan Region, have arrested and charged three people after more than 300 hydroponically grown cannabis plants were discovered in homes at Smithfield and Cabramatta West. Yesterday morning (Wednesday 19 August) officers attached to the Wetherill Park Region Enforcement Squad executed four search warrants at homes in Chifley Street, Smithfield and Lord Street, Cabramatta West, along with two units in Gilbert Street, Cabramatta. The officers were assisted by police from Bass Hill Region Enforcement Squad, Cabramatta, Green Valley and Fairfield Local Area Commands. Police will allege they located and seized 328 hydroponically grown cannabis plants at the Chifley Street and Lord Street homes, resulting in the arrest of two men and a woman. A 25-year-old Smithfield woman was charged with conceal serious offence and being found on drug premises. She was refused bail and is due to appear at Fairfield Local Court today. A 26-year-old Smithfield man was charged with cultivate commercial quantity of cannabis, conduct drug house and steal electricity. He was refused bail and will appear at Fairfield Local Court today. A 26-year-old Cabramatta West man has been charged with knowingly take part in the cultivation of commercial quantity of cannabis, being found on drug premises and steal electricity. He was refused bail and is due to appear at Liverpool Local Court today. Police continue with their investigations into the matter and have urged anyone with information about illegal or suspicious behaviour to immediately contact their local police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
