Mum is Top of List as Most Inspiring Woman
Mum I love mum
Nicole Kidman was cited as being the second greatest female inspiration, while Julia Gillard came in equal 4th with Cathy Freeman. Dawn Fraser was listed as the third most inspiring woman.
The top twelve inspiring women were: 1. Australian mums 2. Nicole Kidman 3. Dawn Fraser 4. = Julia Gillard = Cathy Freeman
Penny Small, Nutristionist with Lean Cuisine, says mums are clearly the greatest inspiration by far, the old adage ‘mum knows best’ seems to true for Australian women. Mums are the traditional provider of food. They cook with love, they cook for their children and their family and when you think of your mum, one of the things you think about is your mum’s home cooking.
“There is no doubt that mothering is a demanding and challenging job and it is so inspiring to find that Australian women look up to their own mums. 39.3% of contemporary females believe they are far worse off than their mums were, citing a lack of ‘me’ time the biggest generational difference. 82.3% of respondents don’t feel they have enough time in the day, 65.9% say they never find the time for relaxation, 61.4% can’t find time to exercise and 28.6% struggle to find time for their partner,” Ms Small says.
She says Nicole Kidman is the quintessential Australian girl next door made good - extremely talented, has a gorgeous husband and is a great mum. Sportswomen Dawn Fraser and Cathy Freeman not only broke records but broke with the norm, they did it their way and as such are extremely inspirational to women. Gail Kelly is breaking records of her own. She is a highly talented business woman, who has well and truly broken the glass ceiling and who is renowned for extraordinary management skills.
“Julia Gillard, Deputy PM has broken down enormous barriers. She inspires women with her strength, the way she stands up to her very busy, demanding and challenging position with dignity and leadership and as Australia’s first female and first foreign-born deputy prime minister, she certainly has earned her place on this list.”
Ms Small says it’s extremely difficult in this day and age to do it all. Women today are extremely time-poor and this survey shows that they often don’t have enough time in their day to do the things they need to do. Interestingly Small says most Australian women report that they spend around one hour per week on thinking about what they are going to cook in the week, and between 1-3 hours shopping. No small wonder then that we are amazed by our mothers.
